What is Plein Air?
“Plein air” is a French term meaning “in the open air.” It refers to painting outdoors, directly in front of the subject, rather than from a photo in a studio. The practice demands spontaneity: the light shifts, the wind blows, shadows move. There’s no time for perfection — only presence.

Why This Series Matters
I’ve always struggled with the idea of “finished.” My instinct is to keep perfecting, keep adding, never quite satisfied enough to put the brush down. Watercolor plein air painting challenged that.
When you paint outside, the world doesn’t hold still for you. Shadows climb steadily across a meadow. A glassy lake surface shifts into dancing ripples as the wind stirs. A sunset slips away in layers of changing color, reminding me that I, too, can change — and let go.
Each painting is a love note — sometimes to a special spot, other times to an ordinary landscape — a snapshot in time for the moment that was. This series became my meditation in imperfection and presence. To me, these paintings are not about mastery, but about learning to be present enough to say: this is enough, as it is.
